Small Groups: FAQ

Some typical questions people may have about small groups. Want to join a small group? Learn how.

Why should I attend a Small Group?

Small Groups exist to help the church connect believers in authentic community with one another; to disciple them to grow in their relationship with God; and to encourage them to make an impact by serving others and reaching the lost. You may be doing great in your Christian walk right now, but by being in relationship with fellow believers, you will experience even more of the abundant life Jesus has to offer. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: if one falls down, his friend can help him up. If you are ready to connect with other people, belong to something life-changing, and grow in Christ through relationships with other believers, then maybe it's time to get involved in a small group!

What is a Small Group?

A small group is typically made up of ten to eighteen people who meet regularly during the week to share about their lives, support one another, and study biblical truths. Each group has a host and a leader (or one person may host and lead). Groups meet in a number of different locations around Southwest Denver, including coffee shops, restaurants, the church, and work places, but typically they meet in homes. Most groups meet weekly during evening hours. Our goal is to accommodate the different needs of those in our church by offering a variety of options.

What do Small Groups do?

This can vary from group to group, but most groups have a time of fellowship, prayer, Bible or book study, discussion, and life application. Not all groups study the same thing. Some read and study books about Christian living, some about marriage, and others study books of the Bible.

We also encourage our small groups to serve the community together. Small groups from The Rock have fed the homeless, provided Christmas gifts for children with parents in prison, repaired homes for families in the church, and much more. It's amazing what God can do through a group of people as they use their skills, gifts and resources to help those in need.

How do I find & join a Small Group?

Look through our directory and find a group or two that suit your schedule and interests. Then call or email Pastor Danny about getting started. After you get directions and details, just show up and check it out! Hopefully, you’ll feel right at home with the first group you visit, but you may want to visit several groups before you find the group that's right for you. If you feel a little nervous or unsure, just stick with it - you'll be happy you did! So, will you take the steps to find a small group of your own?
