What kind of church is The Rock of Southwest?

Above all, we are a church that is committed to Reach people for Jesus Christ. We believe that this is the most important issue in all of life. Second, we are a church committed to Teach them to grow and live a life pleasing to God. Our third focus is to Send individuals out to reach others for the cause of Jesus Christ.

Is The Rock of Southwest part of a particular denomination?

We are associated with the Baptists General Conference. A group of churches (currently about 875 of them) who cooperate to help people in the U.S. and other countries hear and understand the good news of Jesus Christ as it is explained in the Bible. This is a voluntary associations and the BGC does not have a direct voice in how The Rock operates. Major decisions at The Rock are made by the leadership and the congregation of The Rock of Southwest.

What about membership?

We encourage people to become members of THE ROCK. It is a way of indicating your commitment to the people and the ministry. However, anyone who has a personal relationship with Christ and whose lifestyle reflects that commitment may serve the Lord in all kinds of ministry even if they are not a member. To become a member at THE ROCK we ask people to attend the Life in Christ and Membership Classes, share how they came to know Jesus Christ in a personal way with members of the Board of Elders, and be baptized by immersion as a believer.

What about baptism?

As a church we believe that baptism is for believers and is by immersion. We do not baptize infants but do encourage parents to have each of their children dedicated which is a public declaration of their intent to be godly parents. Dedications are held several times a year.

How is money handled at The Rock of Southwest?

The Rock has a Board of Elders that is ultimately responsible for handling the financial affairs of the church. A Treasure, Finical Sectary, and Business Administrator, working under the direction and supervision of the elders, handle all of the record keeping and distribution of funds. Giving records are held in strict confidence. Giving statements are prepared annually and mailed to people's homes by January 31, or upon request. Any question you have about finances can be directed to the church office.

Our church is financially dependent on God's provisions. These provisions primarily come through the generous and faithful gifts of the people who care about the ministry of this church.

A special benevolence offering is taken following the communion service on the first Sunday of each month. These funds are used by the Deacon team to help people within our church family or community who are facing short-term financial challenges.
